Amy Rattner
Amy Rattner lives in Woodside, California with her husband and two Bernese Mountain dogs. She received her MA in English at Stanford University and worked as a graphic designer before discovering her passion for fine art in 2006 while taking watercolor classes at the Pacific Art League (PAL) in Palo Alto. Today, her art practice has since expanded to include acrylic inks, acrylics, gold leaf and collage. Animals have always been her passion, and she strives to capture the unique spirit of her subjects while also conveying her own thoughts and feelings about them. Working in layers helps her subtly reveal the history and evolution of a composition, allowing her to tell a unique story in each piece. Amy has long admired artists from the ukiyo-e and Shin hanga schools in Japan, the Arts and Crafts movement, as well as early modernism and Fauvism, especially the Taos School and other masters of Southwestern art.
Amy's work belongs to private collections worldwide, including those in Woodside,
Carmel, Santa Fe, Boston, France and Norway. Her work is available at Viewpoints Gallery in Los Altos and has been featured at galleries and exhibitions throughout California; in Santa Fe, New Mexico and online at Ugallery. Amy's artwork has been highlighted in Art and Color 365, Art of the West, Southwest Art, the Palo Alto Weekly, Mountain Home and Palette magazines. Amy’s work has earned five Artistic Merit awards in Art and Color 365’s “Semi Abstract” and “Animal” competitions in 2023, 2024, and 2025 respectively; Best in Show in Fusion Art's “5th Anniversary Exhibition” in 2020; Honorable Mention in the Coastal Art League’s “Anything Goes” exhibition in 2024, and third place in the Pacific Art League's "95th Anniversary Exhibition" in 2017. Amy is a member of Allied Artists West, Art Bias, the Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society, the California Art Club, the California Watercolor Association and the Association of Animal Artists.
