Maria Tracy
My work focuses on the history and memory of everyday objects seen through the lens of my lived experience. My current work seeks to explore the intimate and changing experience of motherhood that has both personal and universal power to communicate across traditions and generations. I often paint nostalgic and familiar objects exploring their conflicting characteristics and history in the context of my associated memories. The tactile experience of working with a variety of mediums drives my creative process. The process is often intuitive. Within my process of painting and collage I manipulate my materials to examine the relationship between experience, viewer and object.
